Firm grip
Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does. I Pet. 5:8-11 MSG
I love God’s Word, it sustains us, teaches us, grows us, blesses us, and covers us with His blood. When I get home after a few nights of outreach and I pray about the people we’ve met with, I pray for the Lord to fill their hearts with his knowledge, grace, mercy and love. And then I pray for the team, praying that we are of one heart and one mind, focused on the things of God. I thank our wonderful savior that he blesses us with protection, because sometimes it can be quite a challenge out there.
Thank you Lord that you were watching over us so that ‘Miss Big Mouth’ didn’t get us in trouble with the police. She was strutting her stuff in the middle of the street and came over to the van for a lunch bag and prayer. We had never met her before but she knew who we were. While praying with her she started talking, interrupting with a prayer of her own telling God how mad she was with the police. I stopped praying aloud for her, she just wasn’t listening; the demons in her were ranting and raving. She was telling us about another lady we knew from the streets who had recently overdosed and died. Somehow in her mind it was the fault of the police that she died. While she was talking the police drove by us and she started yelling at them. She said, “why don’t you join us in prayer you need it more than I do, you are nothing but a bunch of #!@*”, words to awful to repeat. I thought for sure they were going to stop and say something but they just slowed down then drove off. Thank You Lord that you gave us the wisdom to approach the police and tell them all about what we are doing in the neighborhood before we even started talking to the women. Then Miss Big Mouth started telling us about the things that were done to her friend after she died and I thought I was going to be sick. Sometimes it’s so hard to listen to people tell you all their dirt and not feel dirty yourself. I come home and just cry for all the people that the devil has stolen and pray for strength to talk to them again and again, and again about our precious Lord and savior.
Thank you Father for the tender hearts of the women that are crying out to be set free, free from the drugs, street life and the torment of satan. When we approached P she was talking on her cell and told the person she had to call them back as she wanted to talk to the “prayer ladies”. Seeing P was a reminder that God is faithful in his promises to redeem us from all wickedness. A few years ago P wasn’t much different than ‘Miss big mouth’, yet today she boldly makes her prayer requests, gives thanks for the changes taking place in her life and smiles a smile that lights up her face. What a joy it is to be a witness to the new creation she is becoming. When we drove back down the street a few minutes later we saw her sitting on the side of the building eating from the lunch bag she received.
Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. Psalm 115:1 NIV
In Him,
