A Street Ministry

We are dedicated to bringing hope and recovery to people engaged in at-risk activities by sharing Christ’s love, compassion and forgiveness.

Abide Ministries 70x7 Street Outreach is a ministry working directly with people on the streets of North West and Central Detroit. The Street Outreach team uses a van as their mobile base. From the van we provide sandwiches, juice, hygiene kits, prayer and a list of referrals for services such as shelter, food, and rehab. Our main vision and purpose for this outreach is to show people of all walks of life that God loves them, without bias and desires a relationship with them, to encourage them and to give them hope.

Our focus is primarily women engaged in prostitution, and substance abuse. We also reach out to others engaged in various at-risk activities.

Deliver us

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.  Matt. 6:13

We started out so joyous looking forward to an evening of prayer and fellowship with our friends.  We didn’t see them last Tuesday because of the snow so the team headed out on the streets with joy filled hearts.  Our first stop confirmed our joy as 10 of us stood in a circle and gave thanks to our Lord.  Our next stop took the wind out of our sails.  We were stopping to see a lady who had recently quit working the streets and doing drugs.  She was longing to get to know more about the savior whom she was learning to put her trust in.  She even named her cat, “God bless you”.  A few months ago she moved into a rental home for the first time in 25 years.  Then her son got wise to the fact that she was now receiving a steady though meager monthly income from SSI.  For the last few weeks she had been asking for prayer in how best to handle the situation with her drug-addicted son.  She knew it was not good for her to be around him but he is the only family she has so she was afraid to cut him out of her life while trying to stay faithful to her recovery.  We pulled up at her home and beeped the horn to let her know we were there.  No lights, no answer from within, which was very strange.  So I called her to let her know we were outside.  She answered the phone and said, “I know you are in my drive, get out!”  Her voice was so cold and mean and we immediately knew that Satan had entered back into her life.  I longed to call her back and see if she would at least talk to me but I knew that tonight might not be the best time to do that.  Will you join me in prayer asking that Jesus would open a window of opportunity to speak with her tomorrow?  And that if we do get to have a conversation that I speak with love, the love that comes from Christ who loves her dearly.

And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will. 2 Tim. 2:24-26

Trusting in Him,
