A Street Ministry

We are dedicated to bringing hope and recovery to people engaged in at-risk activities by sharing Christ’s love, compassion and forgiveness.

Abide Ministries 70x7 Street Outreach is a ministry working directly with people on the streets of North West and Central Detroit. The Street Outreach team uses a van as their mobile base. From the van we provide sandwiches, juice, hygiene kits, prayer and a list of referrals for services such as shelter, food, and rehab. Our main vision and purpose for this outreach is to show people of all walks of life that God loves them, without bias and desires a relationship with them, to encourage them and to give them hope.

Our focus is primarily women engaged in prostitution, and substance abuse. We also reach out to others engaged in various at-risk activities.

Jealous patriarchs

Because the patriarchs were jealous of Joseph, they sold him as a slave into Egypt. But God was with him. Acts 7:9

I’m not trying to be disrespectful but when I think of a particular incident last night during outreach this verse really made me laugh.  Lately we’ve been enjoying the company of some young Godly men and women riding in the van with us and one of those young men, Jake, was with us last night and we had to mercilessly tease him.

We’ve been doing outreach in this particular neighborhood for almost 2 years now.  In all this time we’ve met and prayed with many children.  We had just stopped by a client’s home and the children surrounded the van asking for prayer and lunch bags.  I love the way the kids now step up to the van and immediately tell us what they want us to pray about.  We were just about ready to leave and 2 more children ran up to the van and asked Jake to pray with them.  As they were leaving one of the kids stopped, turned around and said, “what was your name again, Jack or Jake?”  Immediately the patriarchs were jealous and teased Jake about it.  We’ve been there 2 years and the kids have never asked us our names!!  Poor Jake there’s nothing like having 4 women old enough to be his mother or grandmother, acting like they are jealous.  Father we love that you showed favor with Jake last night and sent that young person to encourage not just Jake but all of us.  Thank you for the good-natured laughter and that we didn’t have to sell Jake!  We have been blessed by having so many young people in the van lately, young people that love Christ and his lost sheep.  They bring a new sense of joy and a fresh young outlook on God’s creation!

Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be handed over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him, spit on him, flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.”  The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about. Luke 18:31-24

Well it’s that time of year again, time when we start preparing for our Easter outreach and we need your help again.  Pray that we speak boldly about the Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ, pray that we raise enough donations to help spread some special joy to those we meet on the streets.  We are also asking if you would be willing to help us out and donate an Easter basket.    If this is something you feel led to help us out with please contact me via email or at 313-801-2204 and I will provide the details.  This can be fun to do with a small group, with your children, or on your own.  Thank you for prayerfully considering our request.

Rejoicing in Him,

Donna
