A Street Ministry

We are dedicated to bringing hope and recovery to people engaged in at-risk activities by sharing Christ’s love, compassion and forgiveness.

Abide Ministries 70x7 Street Outreach is a ministry working directly with people on the streets of North West and Central Detroit. The Street Outreach team uses a van as their mobile base. From the van we provide sandwiches, juice, hygiene kits, prayer and a list of referrals for services such as shelter, food, and rehab. Our main vision and purpose for this outreach is to show people of all walks of life that God loves them, without bias and desires a relationship with them, to encourage them and to give them hope.

Our focus is primarily women engaged in prostitution, and substance abuse. We also reach out to others engaged in various at-risk activities.

The sound of rejoicing

From them will come songs of thanksgiving and the sound of rejoicing. Jer. 30:19a

This was a difficult verse to reference, I love what it says but Jeremiah can be a painful book to read. Take the time to read Jer. 30, the whole chapter this Christmas season, beautiful promises in the midst of turmoil.

Tuesday the 21st we did our last night of outreach for Christmas and were we just blown away by the gratitude of the people we saw.  It was a busy month doing 10 outreach trips in 21 days, giving away 352 blankets, gloves, and hats and over 600 pairs of socks plus lunch bags.  Whew! I’m pooped but it’s an excited pooped.  Over and over people expressed how very grateful they were to receive a blanket.  One lady told us that it’s the first time in years that she felt warm when she went to sleep.  We even got to meet quite a few new families these last few weeks.  When we would stop to give a regular client a blanket they would ask if we had enough to give a family they knew who were struggling a blanket also.  So off we would go in the direction they sent us and Hallelujah we met some very, very grateful families.  At one home we gave the blankets to the father; he carried them inside and came back out for more.  Well when the kids got the blankets they ran to the window opened it and yelled “Thank you, Thank you, I love my blanket”.

It was a beautiful Christmas this year because of the generosity of so many of you.  Thanks for the blessing you provided to keep someone warm.  One of our ladies asked us to please let you know how much she appreciates all you do for the ladies working the streets.  Here is how she put it, “I know that you get help with all these donations so would you please tell the people how much we appreciate it.  I know that a lot of people don’t think much of us ladies out here working the streets but when you stop to give us a lunch bag and prayer we really feel loved.  Please tell everyone you can that we say thanks from the bottom of our hearts and we are really grateful for these blankets and socks.  Oh and please tell them Merry Christmas”.
