Touch!
Tonight’s email is from Caroline, a wonderful team-member.
“When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action”. Matthew 18:19 MSG
An Encouraging Night!
In the few short months that I have been riding along in the van with Donna and the various 70x7 teams of people, I have watched and learned so much about God’s Love. Simple, easy, deep love! I have seen it in the team members and also in the people on the streets.
It’s amazing to me how people just want that physical touch as we grab hands together and pray! That connection with God, even for a moment, is in the heart of us all. I am convinced the lunch bags are needed, but that connection for a moment with each other… going together before God, is yearned for.
This last Monday, as we were getting ready to leave one neighborhood, a new handful of guys came out from a different home. The first man that asked for prayer was G, he told me he had just gotten out of a 90 day rehab and needed prayer for EVERYTHING! He was fresh faced and clear eyed. His buddy, J, was even more fresh faced, clear eyed and very excited for this new chance in life to be free from whatever addiction had him captured. All he wanted was God’s strength to stay clean and get a JOB. That connection, as we grabbed hands to pray was awesome! The agreement we had, the excitement we shared was like a sister and brother eagerly agreeing together about going to our Dad for help. I was so touched by the kinship I felt with him. I am looking forward to seeing what God does for these two guys. They have been in my heart ever since.
We were done with the routes and headed back …chatting and sharing with each other when Donna made a quick U turn (something I have learned is very common). She had seen a man in a wheelchair on the sidewalk. We pulled alongside of the road and Wes jumped out to greet him. Turns out this man was a follower of Christ and had been there to meet a friend but, was a bit late and missed him. They got to talking and apparently he had been in the military overseas when a cement wall had fallen on him and some others. He heard the voice of God as clear as he and Wes were talking. God said to him ” this is not your time to die”….he got supernatural strength and removed the cement! He also talked of another time God had saved his life…he felt someone push his wheelchair and it was out of the way of another tragedy! As I heard these testimonies of God’s faithfulness to him, my heart was so very encouraged. Wes prayed for him and this awesome older man in Christ prayed for Wes, this younger man in Christ… that he would keep in the path of following God. It doesn’t get any better than that! But, it did… He said to Wes that he was glad he had missed his friend this night….because they had a chance to meet!
All I can say is….Only God!
“So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it. The Way He wants You to Live”. 1Thess. 5:11 MSG
Blessings, Caroline
