A Street Ministry

We are dedicated to bringing hope and recovery to people engaged in at-risk activities by sharing Christ’s love, compassion and forgiveness.

Abide Ministries 70x7 Street Outreach is a ministry working directly with people on the streets of North West and Central Detroit. The Street Outreach team uses a van as their mobile base. From the van we provide sandwiches, juice, hygiene kits, prayer and a list of referrals for services such as shelter, food, and rehab. Our main vision and purpose for this outreach is to show people of all walks of life that God loves them, without bias and desires a relationship with them, to encourage them and to give them hope.

Our focus is primarily women engaged in prostitution, and substance abuse. We also reach out to others engaged in various at-risk activities.

Christmas request

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Matt. 25:35,36

The 70x7 team may go out on the streets week after week and give people something to eat, or drink, pray with them when they are sick or even well and visit some of them in their prisons of addiction and poverty.  But it’s the prayers and gifts from so many of you that add to the blessings and joy on the streets.

We’ve been praying for quite a few months now about Christmas gifts and blankets kept coming to mind.  Blankets?  But they need food!  Foolish daughter that I am I should know by now that when the Lord lays something on your heart that I should pay attention.  “Thank you for the lunch bag but do you have a blanket?” he asked.  “Do you think you will have any blankets to give out this winter?” she asked.  We’ve been hearing this cry for blankets for quite a few weeks now.  A few years ago blankets could be found almost any place but things have been going from bad to worse and resources are drying up.  Some that are fortunate enough to live in a house cannot afford to pay the utilities and buy food; so heat, electricity and water get turned off.  It’s almost like a game of roulette, one month heat, the next month electricity or maybe water.  It gets pretty scary because when the heat and/or electricity are turned off they burn candles or kerosene lamps and that’s when accidents happen and the house burns down.  There are some resources out there to help people but then you need a phone and a car or money for the bus to get to the place of assistance.  The people we see on a weekly basis are either squatting in an abandoned home or they rent on a month to month basis so if you are a week late you are out on the street, one month we visit them on this street and the next month we find them staying on a different street.  I get tired just thinking about all the moving they do.

With all that said I’m asking for help this upcoming Christmas season.  We are hoping and praying for gifts of NEW blankets (twin or full size), men’s and women’s socks or possibly a financial gift to help us purchase these items.  I know things are tight for most people but if you find it in your heart to share would you please consider helping us keep our friends warm.

Thank you! Everything in me says “Thank you!” Angels listen as I sing my thanks.  I kneel in worship facing your holy temple and say it again: “Thank you!” Thank you for your love, thank you for your faithfulness; Most holy is your name, most holy is your Word. The moment I called out, you stepped in; you made my life large with strength.  Ps. 138:1-3 MSG

Trusting in Him,

Donna
