A Street Ministry

We are dedicated to bringing hope and recovery to people engaged in at-risk activities by sharing Christ’s love, compassion and forgiveness.

Abide Ministries 70x7 Street Outreach is a ministry working directly with people on the streets of North West and Central Detroit. The Street Outreach team uses a van as their mobile base. From the van we provide sandwiches, juice, hygiene kits, prayer and a list of referrals for services such as shelter, food, and rehab. Our main vision and purpose for this outreach is to show people of all walks of life that God loves them, without bias and desires a relationship with them, to encourage them and to give them hope.

Our focus is primarily women engaged in prostitution, and substance abuse. We also reach out to others engaged in various at-risk activities.

Bear one another’s burdens

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Ps. 68:19

Carry each others burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Gal. 6:2

I haven’t written an email in almost a month, it’s not that we haven’t been hitting the streets and praying with people it just seems that so many things have been happening lately.  So many people dealing with major health issues that it’s hard to sit down and write about what’s happening on the streets.

One good thing that has been going on is being blessed with the opportunity to watch the young team members connect and pray with our street friends.  Last Monday we made a stop where we see quite a few youth.  One of the young girls, probably about 10 years old, approached the van and saw Jake, she said, “Your hair is different, it looks good”.  If I didn’t know better I would think she was flirting with him.  What a joy it is to watch godly young men and women on the team connect with so many people, I’m almost jealous, but in truth I feel blessed to know these young people.  What a bright future we have in these young people that are sold out for Christ!!

We have another client we see on a weekly basis.  This man would always come to the van get his lunch bag, say “God bless you”, and walk away.  Well all that changed when Wes joined the team, now this man wants to talk and talk but only to Wes and he even let’s Wes pray for him, thank you Jesus!!

I can’t forget the new young lady we have on the team, Jeana is a dynamic, spirit-filled prayer warrior who is always willing to give a hug, share a word of encouragement and pray for the women.  All the teams are so blessed to have these young people riding with us, not that we are old, no way, we are still young at heart but it’s refreshing and encouraging to work alongside youth that love the Lord.

Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. I Tim. 4:12 NKJV

With a grateful heart,

Donna

P.S.  Harvest Season, Oct 31st is fast approaching and we typically like to hand out candy to our clients, especially the children who usually don’t get the opportunity to safely ‘trick or treat’.  If you shop for candy and would like to pick up an extra bag to help us out please let me know, our kids both big and small would be very grateful!
