I stand in awe!
As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it. Luke 19:41
I don’t pretend to know the mind of God but sometimes he seems to give us a glimpse of what breaks his heart. Last week we were really hit with what one of the things are that breaks his heart and it broke ours also. We hit the streets 3 evenings, going back into the old neighborhoods to see friends we haven’t seen in a few months and to give the kids school backpacks. We stopped to visit a family we’ve known for over 9 nine years. We’ve struggled with getting to know the parents, siblings, grandparents and kids. When we first met them there were 21 people living in a 4 bedroom home. We got to know this family through one of the teenagers that was involved with a gang. Some of the people in the home have either passed away or moved but new ones have been born and now there are only 13 people living in the house. This is not a lazy family just a family that struggles to keep menial jobs and a roof over their head. The children in this home are very polite, do well in school and give the greatest hugs. We’ve developed an awesome relationship with this family but that’s the problem, it’s a relationship where we are mutually happy to see each other, they let us pray with them but it never goes beyond that. When we try to talk to the adults about Christ they find something to do and leave the room. They are not rude just uninterested and that’s what breaks our heart. I cried all the way home for this family especially the children. The parents do not go to church so the only time the kids hear about Christ is from us. Father, I thank you for your patience in our relationship with this family, I pray that you continue to protect them and open their hearts to the peace, love and joy you have for each of them.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. Habakkuk 3:2
“Oh, I’m so happy to see you,” she said, “I was hoping I would run into you ladies today I need a prayer of thanks. I have a miracle to share with you. Yesterday a friend of mine OD’d on heroin and I didn’t know what to do, she was turning blue, and not breathing, so I did the only thing left to do and I prayed. I asked God to save her. When I looked at her after praying she started breathing!! I’m so amazed that he saved her and I wanted to tell all of you thank you so much for coming out here and praying with us and caring about us.”
There was a lot of rejoicing in the van after talking to this young lady. We thank our heavenly Father for the gift of a second chance for the young lady who OD’d but mostly we thank our savior Jesus that the young lady who prayed will never forget what happened and that she will begin to open her heart and eyes to the miracle of hope renewed; a hope that she will leave the life of homelessness, addiction and prostitution behind and put her faith in Jesus Christ.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jer. 29:11
